Fine Georgian Three Section Mahogany Tea caddy This fine tea caddy is just on the cusp of the Regency period, showing signs of change from the rather formal proportions of strict Georgian taste to that of the Regency elegance, the sides have a very gentle taper ( just ¼ inch difference in width from top to the bottom ) from top to bottom, almost unnoticeable with the top of the lid forming a geometric angular caddy top, the caddy is constructed in the traditional Georgian fashion with a solid Oak carcass and veneered in thick good quality Mahogany, well chosen with a fine grain, a banding running around the edges on the front and the sides typical of that used around 1790-1800, t is a bone, diamond shaped escutcheon and a period key which works the lock but does not catch the top fitting, but the real treasure is revealed when you open the caddy and find, what I have to say is some of the best examples of caddy lids you will come across, each of the three are in solid mahogany and have been turned on a lathe at their centres, with bone knobs to each centre, (one part missing) the lids show some remaining lining, of equal interest is are the hinges which have each been stamped with tiny letters, which I believe reads ( P Moore Registered ------ 27184 ) intriguing to say the least, overall this is an honest genuine original caddy which shows a couple of signs of older minor repairs and a couple of very old worm holes now long gone, all of which I have tried to show in these photographs, and not the just the best bits, you will not be disappointed when you own this one, this is a real peach of a caddy and I love the interior for those unusual caddy lids, good honest untouched great patina just as they should be.
