These beautifully designed sugar/olive tongs were made by Gorham Mfg.Co Providence, RI . Gorham had several marks from 1831. This was the mark used on their sterling pieces in 1865.
They feature a lovely pierced design, in EXCELLENT condition and quite heavy weighing 31.4 grams of silver! They measure 4-1/2" and about 9-3/4" around the outside. These tongs came directly out of an estate w I purchased a collection of beautiful sterling pieces. Many of the pieces appear to be unused. This is one of those in really pristine condition. It has a monogram which I believe is W on the curve of the tongs. It is a very ornate looking monogram that really doesn't look like a letter but I believe that "W" is the letter it is meant to be.
