Made in 1908 it bearsGrulli's old label dated and numbered in old fountain pen. A rare, highly soughtafter violin this fine violin, made 100 years ago in Italy sings with a warm, rich andmature mature voice. It has a deep, profound sound in the lower range and sings with a brilliant sound in the treble end. It is even across all strings as you would expect of an old Italian instrument. This is a fine, one of a kind violin, made byhand, not in a shop or factory. The maker used beautiful old ribbon maple, wide and flamey on the back. Medium grain spruce allows the sound to reverberate in true soloistic fashion. The carving is first rate work...a good Italian makertrying to imitate the master, Stradivari. It is so designated by Grulli to be an authentic copy of a Stradivarius, his 69th instrument, made in 1908.Maker's Label ReadsMade In Italy Edoardo Pietro Grulli No. 69 Copy of Stradivarius It's old-world beautiy is really special as is it's lush, powerful, sweet sound. I've taken the opportunity to record this fine violin being played so that you can hearit and judge it for yourself. The craftsmanship is evident on this wonderful violin. The carving is the work of a master, from the finely cut scroll and sound-holes,to the perfectly proportioned, hand carved body, the maker used the finest old, mature flame maple and old spruce to produce that desireablesound quality that violinists are always seeking. This video clip was shot on my inexpensive point & shoot camera in video mode.T is absolutely no enhancement of the sound whatsoever. T are nospecial microphones used, no computerized or studio effects. I shooot itin the corner of my family room (the only uncluttered corner left in the house).The sample is being played by a 14 year old student (your comments arewelcomed. The piece is an excerpt from Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo'sConceierto de Aranjuez originally written for guitar and orchestra in 1929. The condition is excellent for a violin of this age.The finish is just gorgeous, glowing in a way that is the result of father time. Golden honey color; deep and rich. T are no post cracks; pegs work well and the pegbox is perfect. I don't see any open cracks, just a minor hairline, old and stable, under thechinrest. T is the slightest of bulging on the lower bout. These things are typical of instruments of this age and appear as if they've been tfor decades and have no affect on the beautiful, robust sound of the violin.T are, of course, the usual minor dings that you'd expect on an instrumentof this age. The maker has signed and dated the instrument on the inside. I've given it my best read, but it is hand written and may differ somewhatfrom the spelling I've shown. T are minor signs of age, but nothingthat affects the sound or playability, just the normal patina and signsof age that in my opinion, add to the violin's character and validate the age of the instrument.
