A very fine, Japanese cigarette case, decorated in Komai-style. The front shows a writhing dragon, against stylised clouds, while the reverse has a cockerel and hen, surrounded by flowers. Great quality work of etched brass with a black lacquer ground. The interior is also of black lacquer. Dating to the early 20th Century and measuring 3.5" x 3.25". T is a very slight dent to the front, which can hardly be noticed and the interior has lost its original retaining straps, but this is an excellent piece showing very good workmanship.
