This is a Capodimonte Urn in the classical style with hand-painted numphs frolicing in the garden. Capodimonte A Brief History: The relief style, highly colored and defined porcelain pieces are commonly called and identified in our current market place as Capo-di-Monte. It was King Ferdinand IV, son of King Charles who opened a factory in Naples in 1771 and began to use the mark of the blue crown N (BCN). When the factory closed in 1834, the Ginori family at Doccia near Florence, Italy, acquired what was left of the factory and continued using its mark. The factory continued until 1896 when it was then combined with Societa Ceramica Richard of Milan, which continues today to manufacture fine porcelain pieces marked with a crest and wreaths under a blue crown with R Capodimonte. As more Capodimonte collectors recognize and appreciate the quality of the older ware, buyer demand drives prices higher. This covered urn is marked Italy. The urn is about 8 inches high and about about 4 inches across at the widest opening under the lid. It is painted and completely finished by hand following the tradition of the Capodimonte style. It likely (alhtough I don't know for sure) made out of an original masterpiece moulded by an authentic Capodimonte artisan, respecting the very old artistic Italian tradition that great masters handed on from father to son until today. Please note the pic that shows the stem of the urn. A hairline crack has been repaired. As far as I can tell t are no other cracks or chips. It has the Capodimonte mark with wreath, shield and crown. It also is marked Italy 3714. Sale is as is. I cannot be responsible for USPS lost or damaged items. I recommend insurance so you can track the item. Thanks for shopping.
