We are offering a rare porcelain statue decorated with the color on biscuit technique called "Sancai, or Three Colors" by Chinese ceramics connoisseurs. The statue is modelled into a high-ranking Buddhist priest or a Lohan holding a small dog sitting on a wide chair. The statue was colored with lime green, beige, yellow, green, aubergine, and brown pigments directly on the biscuit before firing. The resulting colors are vivid with natural splashes. The sculptural quality is superb with finely delineated facial expression, free draping robe, and well sculpted animal. It is unusual to find a sancai statue with such artistic sculptural merit and fine color combination. This Lohan statue is in excellent condition. We date it to be from 19th century or earlier, perhaps from the Kangxi period. Size: height: 17.5cm; width: 10cm; depth: 10cm
