FINE ANTIQUE PHILIPPINES SILVER INLAID BRONZE BETEL BOX
I have a good number of interesting antiques for sale this week including a fine old Samoan kava bowl and a 19th Century Fijian or Tongan pole club.

This is a wonderful silver inlaid four compartment bronze box (for betel nut and lime storage) from the Philippines and dating to the late 19th or early 20th Century.

It would have been made by the Maranao people in the Mindanao region of the southern Philippines and from the quality of the metalwork I would imagine that it would have been made for somebody quite important.

With its typical flowing Okir scroll work design and the quality of the inlay it would make a great addition to any collection. It is offered at a very low start price and with no reserve so good luck with the bidding.

Very good overall condition. Many of the hinge pins need to be profesionally replaced and some are no longer t but the box itself is in quite fantastic condition with no missing inlay that I can find.

It measures about 5.2" / 13.2cms by 2.4" / 6.2cms across the lid and stands about 2.4" / 6.2cms tall. It weighs a hefty 727g unpacked.
