This listing is for a beautiful larger size antique chromolithograph of "Hen & Chicks". It is by Ben Austrian but the print has been trimmed over time (not by me) and t is no signature or date left to prove this. A lovely mother hen sitting in a straw lined wicker basket or nest with her brood of 10 adorable newly hatched chicks around her. The chicks are just beautiful, the look so fluffy and sweet, they are beautifully colored & are just loaded with personality! Mother hen is just as lovely, she has a little sprig of straw in her beak. Circa late 1890s, guaranteed to be old and original. Colors are bright & rich, my photos don't do this piece justice!! The print is quite and old and fragile. T are some very faint crease lines scattered about, they blend in very well and the background is so dark, they are not noticeable when hanging. T is a faint crease near the hens head and also 2 horizontal onse in the area by her tail. At some point in time one of it's previous owners (not me!) decided to attach it to a piece of white artist board, I believe it was done because the print was fragile & to prevent tearing and cracking. It is not noticeable at all and really does make this rare old print much sturdier. Please ignore any white flecks you see, it is just dust. It's a stunning piece and displays just beautifully! Comes housed in a lovely dark walnut adirondack style criss cross frames w/large carved leaves at the corners. The two leaves at the top each have one tip missing, not noticeable. Also one of the cross bars, bottom left is missing. Glass is very old & wavy. Has the original lemon gilt liner which has a beautiful time worn patina. Frame is in very good & sturdy condition. The frame complements this litho just perfectly and it truly a lovely & old print. Wonderful larger size - measures 18" high x 20 1/2 framed, litho measures 12" high x 15 3/4 unframed. Please email w/any questions & thanks for looking! Be sure to check my other listings for more antique framed prints.
