This is a lovely Victorian era Beetle Brooch, 800-900 silver, Made by masterful Victorian era Silver craftsmen in Bari, an ancient port city in southern Italy. A masterful rendition of an ancient creature. Captured in Fine Filigree. This item measures approx. 2.25 in. This is one piece of a large Entomological Brooch/Pin grouping that will be listed in my Ebay store, and can be seen in the last picture. Visit my Ebay store to see the other items, Including, Secada, Crickets, Grasshoppers, Prayingmantus, a Butterfly Hat pin, a Snowflake Fur / Hat pin, a Serpent with Trident brooch, a lovely Scissor/ Thimble/ Pin Brooch, and a tiny Monkey riding on a back of a Dragon fly. These pieces were recovered from the estate of a former owner of a Trans Atlantic Italian shipping firm Tassitro/ Vaccheri/ Francesoni. The larger portion of this recovery was sold in the Spring 2003 sale at Skinner's Mass. The collection was featured in their jewelry section and the picture of that catalog page is show in the pictures below.The Skinner's description reads as follows: {Collection of Silver Filigree Jewelry,The lot constitutes the remaining stock of the Tassitro/ Vaccheri/ Francesoni Family shipping business. Included with the lot are copies of inventories dating back to the 1850s, Showing that their ships transported silver Jewelry and other goods.
