Finest Tapestry Banko Sencha Kyoto Japanese teapot 1930This exquisite little teapot is made of the finest, most delicate, translucent bisque porcelain. The body is formed by compressing different coloured and patterned clays together so as to create a mosaic. This is then used in a mold to form the shape of the teapot. The colours are grey, white, pale blue and green, and buff brown. The pattern is visible all the way through the porcelain, and the surface is textured as though the mold was lined with woven material. I must confess that the process of manufacturing these enchanting pieces is somewhat of a puzzle to me.This teapot is in Sencha form, with handle and spout at right angles. Just how these could be attached so seamlessly, with no interruption to the pattern, is a mystery. The teapot is unglazed except for along the top rim and on the tip of the handle and spout. The charming floral button finial is also slightly glazed and is deliberately loose so that it rotates. T are two pierced holes in the cover and three in the handle, providing visual balance.
