A book & guide to Antique Finger Rings 'FINGER RINGS: FROM ANCIENT TO MODERN' by Diana Scarisbrick & Martin Henig Ashmolean Museum, (Oxford, 2003). A catalogue of the Ashmolean Museum's extensive collection with introduction to rings including information ( plus drawings) on hoop sections and component parts of the ring; followed by a Catalogue, which is profusely illustrated with colour photographic illustrations throughout. Particularly useful are the diagrams which classify ring types: covering Egyptian, Archaic, Classical & Hellenistic; Roman to Medieval, and Medieval to early 19th century. A superb sections on iconographic rings, seal rings, fede rings, signet rings, etc, etc. Fantastic colour plates, presenting examples from the catalogue. A very desirable catalogue of rings which would appeal to collectors, dealers, metal detectorists, or anyone interested in antique and ancient jewellery. Pristine condition, as new.
