This auction is for a very rare non-commissioned officer's dagger. In Finnish, it is called a “knife bayonet” (puukkopistin). The Finnish Army ordered these weapons from different manufacturers.
This particular one was made by Carl Eickhorn, Solingen Germany and was designed in 1919 by the great Finnish artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela. At that time, he served as an aide to Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim, who later became Marshal of Finland.
This dagger is of excellent quality. It shows light wear, some surface rust marks, but nothing is loose or damaged. Near the tip of the blade there is some roughness and two small nicks. The scabbard is also in good condition. The leather belt loop is still in fairly good condition. The Carl Eickhorn's squirrel is stamped on the blade. Please look at the pictures.
The overall length of the knife is 25,5 cm. The blade is 14,6 cm. The thickness of the blade is just under 6 mm (near the handle). A really sturdy dagger.
