This is a first edition copy, numbered 708/1000, published 1922 Boni and Liveright. Currently, on Abe Books (), there are 18 examples of the 1922 publication date listed for sale, ranging in price from $1,000 to $16,000 (there is even an autographed copy for 65,000). Why such a wide variation in price? The main factors are the condition of the book (also if it has the dust jacket), as well as crucial features which identify a first/early impression of the first edition, as there were several impressions/states. Its condition is very good/near fine, and it lacks a dust jacket. There is some light wear at the ends of the book cover near the spine. Also, the last couple of pages have the tips missing/chipping because of hasty opening of the uncut pages many years ago. Overall, a very nice and clean copy with no staining, and the only imperfections are in relation to the uncut page opening and the outer wear. I would estimate this copy of the Waste Land is in the middle range of the values given on Abe Books, between 3,000-7,000. I leave it up to the magic hand of the marketplace to determine whether it falls closer to the 10,000 mark or to the 1,000 mark. I am starting bidding low, without a reserve. I have taken care to give excellent pictures of all aspects of the book, so that you may and clarity. Look closely. If you require additional pictures, details, or information of any kind, I am happy to do so. It contains the following issue points: - numbered 708 (out of an issue of 1000) in 2mm font - missing the "A" in "mountain" on line 339 of page 41 The method of shipment will depend on final sale price. If the winning bid exceeds $5,000 USD, I will send within the USA by registered mail, as priority mail has a $5,000 insurance limit. For international buyers, I may use a private carrier like UPS or Fedex if I am unable to get the full value of your purchase insured via USPS priority. The point is, your book will be shipped securely and fully insured, with tracking, and I will handle any additional costs beyond the supplement I have listed for international shipping. I have 100% positive feedback on EBay and aim to keep it that way. You can . If you have any questions or special requests, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate you. Be sure to check out my other auctions I am currently running and which end Sunday May 8th, I am selling a first edition signed Aldous Huxley book, as well as an autographed letter by Woodrow Wilson. I have another 4 auctions I just started yesterday and which are ending Sunday May 15th for an autographed family photo of President Nixon, a World War 2 leather pilots briefcase with secret documents inside, a World War 2 poster, and a 1962 White House luncheon card from the President Kennedy administration. The Waste Land From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia For other uses, see Wasteland . The Waste Land [A] is a 434-line [B] Modernist poem by T. S. Eliot published in 1922 . It has been called "one of the most important poems of the 20th century." [1 ] Despite the poem's obscurity [2 ]—its shifts between satire and prophecy , its abrupt and unannounced changes of speaker , location and time , its elegiac but intimidating summoning up of a vast and dissonant range of cultures and literatures—the poem has become a familiar touchstone of modern literature .[ 2] Among its famous phrases are "April is the cruellest month" (its first line); "I will show you fear in a handful of dust"; and (its last line) the mantra in the Sanskrit language " Shantih shantih shantih ."
