This auction is for a unique majolica salt and pepper set cleverly disguised as a sly fox sleeping cozily in the hollow trunk of a tree. The fox is the peppershaker with two holes pierced into his back. The tree trunk, decorated with leaves, berries and flowers, acts as the saltshaker. The top edge of the trunk has a raised scalloped edge with a formed straight edge in the rim w the fox's feet rest, allowing him to be positioned properly atop the trunk. When you lift the fox from the trunk, you can see 3 holes pierced into the top pottery surface of the trunk. Both pieces retain their original clear plastic stoppers. The hand painted décor of this majolica salt and pepper set is in warm shades of auburn brown, beige brown, green, raspberry, lavender, white and yellow. Black glaze was used to accent the fox's nose and eyelids. Markings : The bottom of the salt and pepper shakers are marked with incised marks into the pottery with the following information: ã FF 1991 .The bottom of the tree trunk retains its original white paper label with black writing that reads: FF Taiwan. Approximate Dimensions : The height of the shaker set to the highest tip of the fox's ear is 3 ½". The width of the set is about 3 ¼" at the widest points. Overall Condition : Very good condition.
