*The History of Railroads in Coles County - Russell T. Willingham. Coles Historical Series No. 3. "The third in our Coles Historical Series is a reprint of the paper presented July 7, 1974, at the summer meeting of the Linder Community Center, Charleston, by Russell T. Willingham of Charleston."

*Edward Coles: Freedom's Champion - E. Duane Elbert, Eastern Illinois University. Number 4, Second Edition. "The second edition of Edward Coles: Freedom's Champion has been published by the Charleston National Bank for distribution to Coles County school children and public libraries."

*Samuel Inglis: EIU's Little Known First President, by Allen Keith, Jr. Number Five. "Allen H. Keith, the public information director, Lake Land College, Mattoon, presented a paper on Samuel Inglis, the man named to be the first president of the Normal School. Mr. Inglis never officially served due to his unfortunate death."

*A History Of Coles County Schools by Willis McKinney. Number 8. "Mr. McKinney's emphasis is on the one-room rural school that dominated the educational system of this nation until the late 1930s. It is fitting that the society join Mr. McKinney in preserving this information because our future home is a one-room school house, the former Greenwood School."
