This type of oyster plate is not seen often. A similar mold is shown on page 103 of the Karsnitz book on oyster plates, with a different decoration. My plate is edged with gold around the rim, which is in great condition, and has a floral design all around the border. This design is hand-tinted and features a long-stem rose, buds, and leaves, all without wear. The 5 oyster wells are raspberry pink around the edges and have a hand-painted pink and gray design depicting the muscle scar. The wells converge in the middle, without a center well, which is unusual. The mold has a shell-shaped design in between the wells, with ridges, and t is gold bordering the wells. It is marked with the numbers âe~2232âe(tm) and then âe~118âe(tm). I would estimate this plate as being of German origin and dating to the turn of the century. As to the condition, this plate is intact, free of chips, cracks or damage; please check the pictures. Please e-mail any questions and check my other auctions of oyster plates and shooters.
