This is an ORIGINAL, hand-signed signature in black ink, on an 8x10 on professional Kodak-type photographic paper (NOT any sort of a reprint). Charles Lindberg is best-known as being the last survivor of the first flag-raising on Iwo Jima, 23 February 1945. His signature reads: "Charles W. Lindberg 1st Flag-Raiser, Iwo Jima, Feb. 23, 1945, 10:30am." Photo was taken by Staff Sergeant Louis R. Lowery immediately after the historic FIRST flag-raising on Iwo Jima. It was THIS one which was cheered by the Marines and sailors ashore and afloat. The raising of the better-known replacement flag later, so they could keep this one as a souviner for their battalion, was photographed by civilian Joe Rosenthal. Photo shows members of Company E/2nd Battalion/28th Marines/5th Marine Division, from left to right: PFC James Robeson sitting at lower left corner and barely visible; 1stLt Harold G. Schrier (formerly D&Hq/2nd Raider Bn), NAVY CROSS and SILVER STAR, sitting to left of radioman; the radioman had previously been identified by some as PFC Louis Charlo but is probably PFC Raymond E. Jacobs of Company F; Sgt Henry O. Hansen (formerly K/3rd Parachute Bn) Killed in Action, wearing cloth cover with left hand on pole, note Paratrooper jump boots; Pvt Phillip L. Ward, with both hands on pole; PltSgt Ernest I. "Boots" Thomas, NAVY CROSS and Killed read more
