Beautiful Refinished Large Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps & Buckles, Working Lock & Key, And Original Interior Tray This trunk is $95.00 shipping cost to any of the lower 48 states through UPS! We are absorbing some of the shipping cost since this item is so large to help encourage you to buy this nice trunk. Here is one of the nicest flat tops we have refinished this year. This one is very fancy and ornate. This trunk should date around very early 1900's. The trunk is made up of pine base wood with oak outer slat boards. The wood has been prepared and finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood is in it's natural color. The for age of the trunk, this one is in pretty good condition. It must not have been used too often throughout the years because there aren't any major marks in the wood. There are a couple of typical hairline stress cracks. Just about all of the trunks that we refinish have a stress crack or two. The metal parts on this trunk are not brass and have therefore been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The banding on the edges of the trunk and going up the center and across the top are made of some type of composition and we have painted it along with the other flat metal in black. This trunk maker used a very nice combination of fancy metal parts on this trunk. This beautiful large flat top has the following dimensions: from left to right across the front is 37 inches, from floor to top is 25 1/4 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 22 inches. A nice feature is that this trunk comes with the original working lock which we have matched up a key to it, so it DOES work. This trunk has a nice pair of large original front latches that do work properly since the springs are nice and sturdy. This trunk originally came with leather straps with buckles. They have eroded away probably many years ago. So we have run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top in the very same location where the original ones once were. Actually we have run them under the factory original strap keepers or hold downs. These are the oval shaped pieces with the six round headed tacks holding them in place. They were still in good shape, so we kept them and did re-paint them. These leather straps with buckles are functional and in addition to the working lock and front latches, they hold the top secure to it's base when buckled. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. They are sturdy. What an absolutely beautiful gift this would make for a loved one who enjoys collecting refinished antique furniture pieces for their house. Go ahead and treat yourself to such a nice trunk if not for someone else. We generally do not find trunks of this stature in our wanderings. We are happy to come across very ornate trunks like this one when we can come across them. This trunk has a very nice combination of wood, leather, and metal. You might use this trunk as a storage chest to hold blankets, clothing, or other personal belongings within. These American made trunks always look nice in a bedroom, especially at the foot of the bed. Going to the interior, this great trunk comes with the original divided tray. It rests at the top edge. Fill the tray with belongings, then lift it up and put many more items deep inside the trunk. The interior and tray have had the paper lining removed since it was worn out looking. We have finished the interior wood and tray with two coats of polyurethane. The interior is in pretty good considering the age of the trunk. We did put a new bottom on the tray since the original one was cardboard and the one we put on is sturdier than the original cardboard bottom. We included a nice trunk maker's style picture on the underside of the top. It portrays a horseman riding in the woods with his dogs. Going underneath the trunk to the exterior bottom, it is in very nice shape and we have finished the exterior bottom simply to ...
