Nice Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Brown Edge Banding, Straps & Buckles, Working Lock & Key and Original Divided Tray This trunk is only $39.00 shipping cost to any of the lower 48 states through UPS! Here is a refinished flat top steamer trunk from the early 1900's. This one is a true flat top with no arch. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 34 1/2 inches, from floor to top is 22 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 inches. This gorgeous trunk is made up with pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been lightly prepared and finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood is in pretty good condition with some typical stress cracks and older nicks and dings on the wood. This one comes with the original working lock. We have match up a key so the lock DOES work. The front latches also work properly since the latch springs are intact. We have run a pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top in the same location where the factory original straps with buckles used to be. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass. Very seldom do we find American made trunks with all brass hardware. Since the metal parts are not brass, we have hand painted them in black and gold leaf. We did leave the edge banding in the original brown color. This banding on the edges is not metal, it is made out of some sort of compressed composition. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. We get all of our leather components for our trunks from an Amish man in an Amish community here in Pennsylvania near our home. The inside of this trunk comes with the original divided tray. We have removed the paper lining from the trunk interior and tray, then finished both the tray and the interior wood with two coats of polyurethane. The top of this trunk had to be re-attached with three hinges. The hinges we used are from older parts trunks. When we received this trunk to refinish, it did not have them. The interior is in pretty good condition considering the age of this trunk. A nice trunk maker's style picture of a Victorian girl holding her pet cat has been added to the underside of the top. The exterior bottom underneath the trunk still has the four factory original metal casters which do spin. We have finished the bottom of this trunk to make it overall cleaner.
