Nice Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps & Buckles, Working Lock With Key, and Original Divided Tray is a nice refinished flat top steamer trunk from the late 1800's to around 1900. We will call it a flat top, although t is a slight arch to the top which is noticeable in the close up side view picture. This trunk consists of poplar base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The exterior wood is in pretty good condition and doesn't have too many distress marks. The wood is in it's natural color, or patina. It is a tan or almond type color for the base wood and a light brown for the slat boards. This nice looking trunk comes with the original signed working lock. It is signed, "Eagle Lock Co". It is a little bit difficult to read the signature although it is t We have matched up a key that DOES activate the lock mechanism. The metal components on this trunk are not brass, and tfore have been painted in a nice black and gold paint scheme. This trunk originally had straps which have probably eroded away many decades ago. We have run a nice pair of black Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top. These leather straps with buckles are functional. They help secure the trunk's top to it's base in addition to the front latches and lock. This could be used as a coffee table or storage chest inside your home, so are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 30 1/2 inches, from floor to top is 20 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 17 1/2 inches. Some of our past customers have used similar trunks to display their favorite teddy bear or doll collection on and within the trunk with the lid open. The side handles were gone and have been replaced with nice black leather stitched straps. We acquire the majority of our leather products for these trunks from an Amish man in an Amish community in Pennsylvania near our home. Going to the inside of this lovely trunk, we have removed all of the paper from the interior and the tray. This trunk does come with the original divided tray that rests at the top edge. Use the tray to store smaller items in, then remove it to place more items deep inside the trunk. The wood on the tray and interior has received two coats of polyurethane to preserve the wood and help eliminate any offensive odors. The glue that was used by the trunk maker to hold the paper in place has left some discoloration on the interior wooden surfaces and on the tray. We have shown a close up picture of the interior wood showing this slight discoloration. We just thought we should mention and show it so t won't be any surprises as to why it is this way. A nice trunk maker's style picture has been fastened to the underside of the top portraying a Victorian girl holding her pet cat. Now going to the outside bottom or exterior bottom, the trunk has four factory original metal casters in place. The bottom is in decent condition and we have taken the time to finish it, making this trunk nice and clean for placement anyw within your home. Our trunks have been making wonderful lifetime lasting gifts for people over the past 8 years or so on ebay. We have sold over 1000 trunks now and have a lot of happy customers.
