ANTIQUE WOODEN FLAX SPINNING WHEEL RARE ''1800'S This gorgeous Antique Spinning Wheel detailed throughout with ivory pegs. I believe this is European. I'm not an expert, but I believe this gorgeous old spinning wheel is from the 1800's. It measures about 30 1/2" high and 15 1/2" across at the widest point. The base is about 14"wide. The distaff is a separate unit and measures approx. 68 inches high and constructed in sections. I believe the peg-work to be ivory. This piece is definitely very old. T are not any identifying marks, unless they are obsured or I am not looking in the correct location. It has a wonderful patina. If you know how to work this thing, then you already know more than I do. The wheel is approximately 13" in diameter constructed of (3) separate sections and adjoined together in some sort of "rubic cube" fashion. I mean, if you were given this thing, disassembled, for Christmas 25 years ago and it didn't come with directions, it would probably still be in the box in your attic or closet. Somebody had way too much time on his or her hands to engineer this thing. Then to "actually" make it--ya, right!! The craftsmanship detail is exquisite yet simple.
