This pre-embargo Cuban cigar box is stamped FLOR DE HABANA and PEDOLA inside the lid, and I wish I could find out what Pedola is, or means. Ah well. I'm assuming that this box was used by a cigar seller, rather than a private owner, as it seems to be made for displaying a variety of cigars. As you can see from the main picture, the interior is divided into five sections, each of which is a different length thanks to a graduated series of wood inserts at the sections' tops. All are lined with a warm red velveteen, which is in good condition. The bottom of the box is stamped with the following: Factory No. 662, 3rd Dist. N.Y., 50, and a five-pointed star. Below that is a block of copy enclosed in a stamped frame, reading "Factory No. 662 3rd District STATE OF NEW YORK, NOTICE -- The Manufacturers of the Cigars in contained have complied with all the requirements of law. Every person is cautioned not to use either this box for Cigars again, or the stamp ton again, nor to remove the contents of this box without destroying said stamp, under the penalties provided by law in such cases." You have been warned. The front of the box, lower half, is stamped MISCELLANEOUS, and both sides are stamped BOITE NATURE.
