After graduating Converse College in S.C., Mrs. Lucy Creech Stroup was given a trip around the world. On her visit to Oberammergau , Germany , she saw the âeoePassion Playâe for which that city is famous, and asked Anton Lang for his autograph which he gladly gave along with this advice --- Miss Creech if you like collecting autographs you should collect the first and best of them--- she was never without pen and paper again. This is a sort of tribute to her endeavors. 1904-1995. She went on to become a beloved pioneer teacher and used her hobby to attain many autographs, by requesting them to be hung in her classroom for âeoe important history news of the dayâe many signers were happy to oblige. Again, thank you for looking. I am going to start with a few at a time and work up to the most important ones. I hope to sell over one hundred of them. I will give approximate sizes for them and as much description as I can, although I am not a professional appraiser, I will make every effort to describe and present photos and answer any questions until the potential buyer is satisfied. I have sold many already and t has never been a question of authenticity. Many of them have their original mailing envelopes and letters of authenticity with them. Please visit my other auctions. FLORENCE MAY CHADWICK (1918-1995) was a fierce American swimmer and a woman with a mission. She was the first woman ever to swim the English Channel both ways. She was competing as young as 10 years old. Her biggest contribution to swimming history occurred on Aug. 8, 1950, when she crossed the English Channel in 13 hrs. and 20 minutes breaking the current world record held by American swimmer Gertrude Ederle. One year later she crossed the English Channel again from England to France in 16 hrs. and 22 mins., thus making her the first woman to swim the cannel in both directions. She made many contributions to various youth groups. Thank you for looking. This is a nice note, hand written and signed by Florence Chadwick, with original signed, mailing envelope. The note is on Henry Hudson Hotel stationary, and is a creamy yellow color. She has used blue ink for her note and return address on the envelope. Let me remember to say that this letter has been folded to fit the envelope (because once I forgot to say that, and was given a bad feed back). The size of the stationary is about 9 ½âe x 5 ¾âe and is clean with no torn places. The note reads âeoeTo Mrs. Lucy Stroup, with personal regards and Best wishes always, Florence Chadwickâe. The note is not dated. The envelope is in good condition with the bottom right corner bent and a small slight spot just above it. She has hand signed the return address so t are two autographs with this auction. The envelope is post marked Oct. 10, 1951.
