FLORENTINE Wood & Papier Mache TOLE FOLDING BED TRAY FLORENTINE Wood & Papier Mache TOLE FOLDING BED TRAY ITEM Thi s is a magnificent Florentine tray ... one of the best we've ever seen. Not because of the complexity of the design ... but because of the base! This is actually a Florentine BED TRAY ... the bottom has two "flippers" which fold down to form the legs of a bed tray. They fold into a lip on the bottom and this becomes a flat tray. The top is green with gild accents and the bottom is gilded with a diamond pattern ... finished like most Florentine trays are finished. If you are a collector of Florentine trays, this one is a must and if you need a bed tray, you can't get any better than this one. It is quite beautiful ... and well made with a wood core and an enameled papier mache design ... made with classic Florentine styling. Age (ca) Early 20th century Dimensions 29 " wide X 13-1/2 " deep X 7-1/2" High Condition Good original condition. No damage. Not new so it exhibits minor signs of wear but nothing that would constitute 'damage'. No spots or stains. No loss of enameling. Provenance This item is from a lovely old sprawling waterfront Victorian home on Long Island's north shore. Overlooking one of Long Island's exquisite deep water harbors, the serenity of the view from this home was only rivaled by their treasures inside ... from American and English 18th and 19th century antiques to French Country to Arts & Crafts items, this huge 12 room home had it all!
