INFO ON BOOK Florenz, K. (Karl) Hasegawa, T. (Publisher): Dichtergrusse aus dem Osten, Japanische Dichtungen von K. Florenz, illustrated and printed by T. Hasegawa, Tokyo (10 Hiyoshi-cho and later addresses), distributed by C.F. Amelang's Verlag, Leipzig, 1894 (Meiji 27) through 1914 (Taisho 3), large 12 mo, large format for a Hasegawa book, (5 3/4 x 7 5/8 in - 14.6 x 19.4 cm), crepe paper, silk stab ties, 96 numbered pages, 102 pages total including the covers (51 folded pages). Contains color woodblock prints produced the artists Shoso (Mishima Yunosuke), Kwason (Suzuki Sotaro), Yoshimune (Arai Shujiro) and Sadahiko (Yeda Masajiro). Illustrated front and back covers, title page and copyright notice. This book saw at least 15 printings between 1894 and 1914. After the first edition, the printing number is spelled out in German on the front cover followed by the term "Auflage" (Edition) or "Tausend" (Thousand). "Fünfzehntes Tausend" (15th Thousand) is the highest number I have seen and I believe that was the last time the book was reprinted. The wrap around case has the numerical printing number followed by "Auflage" or "Tausend." It appears the book was reprinted every year or so over its unusually long and active 20 year publication lifespan. The book was also issued on plain (hosho) paper.
