we have a nice piece of agatized coral recovered while diving in the North Withlacoochee River, Madison Co., Florida. This piece measures 5 1/8" long. This is a piece of an ancient Coral Head that lived on the Ocean floor (now the state of Florida) around 50 million years ago. During the Paleo period, over 9,500 years ago, the Native Americans found these Coral heads eroding from the river bed and broke them in search of suitable material to fashion their "arrowheads" and the other tools needed to meet their needs. Luckily for us every other one is hollow and full of crystals, the "Indians" could not use these and they dropped them on site! Over thousands of years under the tanic stained water, getting sand blasted during the numerous floods, has left these specimens so beautiful. Finding whole Coral Heads in the area and cutting them never results to much, only this spectacular journey can produce these fantastic and unique wonders!! An awesome display specimen and nice addition to any collection. Check out our other auctions for more authentic fossils and artifacts. Thanx for looking!!!
