Hi, I'm Hew. I have enjoyed collecting flow blue, polychrome and transferware since 1970. Alas, it is now necessary for me to simplify life, downsize and make a portion of my collection available to others. I have also placed several pieces in my antique shop booth. My first preference is to sell to my fellow eBayers, so please let me know ASAP if I need to retrieve this piece for you. Cheers! This is an extraordinary and rare piece. It is a large, colorful, venerable oriental scene polychrome Flow Blue red ground Staffordshire pitcher or jug made pre 1850. This interestingly contoured pitcher is 5 1/2" diameter at its widest, 3 3/4" diameter at the foot rim, 3" diameter at the neck, 9 1/4" high at the handle, and 10 1/4 to the top of the finial. It has a unique branch-like handle, wrapped with a serpent. It has a pewter lid, and the finial is also branch-like, keeping with the theme of the handle. The pattern is 'PENANG'. I have had several Penang pieces over the years, but this the only red ground piece I have seen. Also, none of the pieces have ever identified the potter. The under-glaze flow blue transfer and the overpainted polychroming contrasts nicely against the red ground.
