Hi, I'm Hew. I have enjoyed collecting flow blue, polychrome and transferware since 1970. I am back, after a hiatus, to continue downsizing and making a portion of my collection available to others. Cheers! This is a beautiful flow blue transfer stoneware Staffordshire pitcher, made by William Adams & Sons pottery, c mid-1800s. The beautiful and highly sought pattern is "Tonquin". This 8-sided mid-Victorian pitcher is 5" high at the spout, 6" high at the handle, 3" at the base, 4" at the widest part of the body and 5 1/4" from the back of the handle to the front of the spout. Added to the wonderful shape and configuration of the pitcher is some subtle embossing of the body. The under-glaze quintessentially cobalt blue has a pleasant flow. It contrasts nicely against the clean white background. The printed potter's mark is on the bottom. This pitcher has some mildly stained, age-expected crazing. It is otherwise free of cracks, chips, flakes and repairs. The piece exhibits a healthy and solid ring when tapped. In order to keep prices reasonable, I present my listings in a no frills manner. I avoid Reserve pricing. I strive to set a price that is fair, and to set clear and reasonable shipping costs. Shipping (domestic), with insurance included, will be $8.00. Items can be combined for further savings on shipping. Please use the above links if I can answer any questions or if you would like to view my other available items.
