One of the most revered of Sister Hummel designs Flower Madonna with child Also known as "Sitting Madonna with Child" in white overglaze. 10/3 incised on base with a full high bee mark. Has the original open halo design created in 1935 by Rinehold Unger according to the original drawing of Sister M. I. Hummel. It wasn't re styled until 1956. Due to the presence of the full high bee trademark, this Hummel was most likely made before 1955. This co-incides with the timeframe that the owner was stationed in Germany as part of the Post War Occupation. He and his wife (both military) were stationed t from late 1949 to 1955 I am absolutely no expert so maybe one of the knowledgeable Ebayers out t can explain it to me. According to the 9th edition of the M. I. Hummel price guide by Robert Miller, the stamp 'Germany' was usually in black or blue ink but occassionally, in green or magenta. This Hummel has the the stamp 'Germany' but it is a very pale yellow. In all honesty, it is so faint it is barely discernable. The only explanation (in my mind anyway) is that the ink applicator was running out of blue dye... since you can only get green by combining blue and yellow. If anyone has another explanation, I'd be delighted to include it. This Madonna is totally mint. No chips, cracks, or crazing. T isn't a single blemish on her. This is being offered at no reserve with a low opening bid. Other original, pristine Hummels from the late 40s and early 50s will be posted in the coming weeks. These include both the Umbrella Boy and Girl, Doll Mother, Little Fiddler, Prayer Before Battle, and about 15 more that I can't remember the names of right now.
