"Fly the Friendly Flies of Vietnam" T-Shirt Authentic Reproduction of Vintage Olongapo, Phillipines T-Shirt from 1972. Size Extra Large The Story of the T-ShirtOur T-shirt is an exact replica of my favorite T- shirt from when I was serving in the Navy in Vietnam. (The original is in the photo to the right). As a Naval Flight Officer on the aircraft carrier USS Hancock, I spent quite a bit of time in Olongapo, Philippines. I bought this T-shirt there from a street vendor. I think I paid about 50 cents for it.This was a popular slogan on T-shirts (remember the United Airlines TV commericals?), but this was kind of a cut-rate version of it. You could buy more expensive, less primitive T-shirts with this slogan, but this version had the most character.I used to wear it under my flightsuit. I figured if I got shot down and was captured by the North Vietnamese, they would take the usual photo of me in captivity, and I thought this would be a good T-shirt to have on in the photo.
