Note as of April 23: I have received several requests to stop the auction and sell as buy-it-now, however I have refused all of them. Although I am happy to answer any questions individually and welcome the interest, this auction will continue to the end, giving the last-minute people a chance to bid. I do not believe it is fair to my bidders or myself to end auctions early. Thanks for your interest in these buttons.
UP FOR AUCTION I HAVE A VINTAGE SET OF JAPANESE PORCELAIN BUTTONS! Fully intact - never removed from fabric display card in original wooden box. PERFECT CONDITION! Just absolutely the most adorable set of hand-painted porcelain buttons I've ever seen. They are little works of art - worthy of framing in my opinion. We have Hotei - the God of Happiness - with sweet wrinkly forehead and bald head. Next is Jurojin - the God of Longevity - with beautifully painted green hat with shiny gold trim. He has a lustrous white moustache and beard depicted with fine hair lines with gold accents. After that comes Daikoku - the God of Wealth. He has a ruby red cap also with gold and yellow trim. His little moustache and goatee are enhanced by very finely carved hair lines. His face is cream with a touch of rouge on the cheeks. Next comes Benzaiten - the Goddess of Beauty. She is wearing a gold tiara and has black very shiny hair - nearly pearlized. Cream face. Fifth is Bishamonten - the God of Dignity. He is wearing an orange/red helmet with an abundance of intricate decorative gold trim. His eyes are amazingly expressive and his face is somewhat darker than the other gods. He has a black moustache and goatee. Sixth in the box is Ebisu - God of Abundance. He has brown hair (seen over both ears) depicted with fine hair lines and he is wearing a gold very decorative cap with black trim. With a little rouge on his cheeks, he also has a slight black/brown moustache and goatee. Last is Fukurokuju - the God of Wisdom. He has a bald head but a full white moustache and beard with fine hair lines. He also has deep expression lines on his forehead. All buttons are clearly unique and quite special. Each is approximately 5/8" from top to bottom. Paper guide to the gods depicts and describes each button. I purchased these buttons in South Africa many decades ago - most likely in the 1950s. However I believe them to have been at least 10-20 years old at the time of purchase. Box is in excellent, nearly new condition with only some very slight rubbing. Nicely grained and without chips, stains or other damage. There is some Japanese hand-writing in blue ink on the left side of the box which extends from the lid to the bottom. These would make great earrings, tie tacks, cufflinks or bracelet charms. They are certainly nice enough to artistically frame with a silk background. Please take advantage of the extra large photographs I arranged to have available. Just Thanks. Please email before bidding if you have any questions at all. I am happy to reply with speedy answer to all questions as well as to try to accomodate requests for further photographs. I happily accept PayPal . US winning bidder will be asked for $4.95 for, insured shipping by USPS Mail service. International buyer will be asked for actual shipping charges to your country. I have and will be listing more many similar and other interesting items on eBay this week so please just If you bid and win two or more, I will of course, combine shipping if possible ! Be sure to add me to your favorite sellers list and check back often. I'll be adding new listings regularly.
