MARIANO FORTUNY Mariano Fortuny was born in Granada, Spain in 1871 into a family rich in artistic ability. He spent years searching for influence from European, Greek, and Egyptian art. First a painter, then a etcher, a sculptor, photographer, architect, and inventor. He was truly a renaissance man. Mariano Fortuny first produced his legendary textile in the early 1900's. The production of textiles was the culmination of his knowledge of engineering, color, design, and art into a manifestation of pure artistic genius. Fortuny's intricate process and production methods, unduplicated elsew, have always remained secret within the factory's walls. Using the same machines and methods for nearly a century, Fortuny is carried on with unmistakable quality. Each piece is a work of art. The early stamp on this fabric would place the production of this fabric after 1927 but before Fortuny's death in 1949. With Fortuny's need to be a part of even the smallest detail, it is a assured that Mariano Fortuny himself had his hands on this fabric throughout production. This fabric is of museum quality and though, more than 50 years old, is still in perfect condition. This auction is for the entire piece of 57" wide 32" long H-repeat 13.5" V-repeat 13.5" This is a work of art ( technically their is no repeats due to the process of Fortuny's hand designs, making each "repeat" unique and no two alike) Today, Fortuny retails around $400.00-$1400.00 per yard. Please bid well on this low opening bid and NO RESERVE auction.
