is some pertinent information about Permian tracks and track ways in Coconino Sandstone from the Ashfork, Arizona area.The fossilized remains of these animals have never been recovered. The tracks themselves have been identified as Cheilichnus, (Laporus is synonymous) a track made by a quadrupedal Tetrapod. Tracks are categorized by size. T are three in the Coconino, Ch. Gigas, Ch. Duncani (the most common), and Ch. Bucklandi. This animal is thought to be a Synapsid, a mammal-like reptile that walked with it's legs directly under it's body. This lifted the tail off the ground, leaving few tail drag marks in the sand. The Permian Coconino was a vast sand dune environment shared by countless creatures such as other species of reptiles, and various species of invertebrate insects. Other reptiles include the Dolichopldichnus, a lizard that was believed to have been a bi-ped while running. Insect tracks that have been found are species of spiders, scorpions, centipedes, as well as others. Tracks vary in quality. This may be due to the moisture content of the sand at the time the imprint was made. Light moisture created weak tracks and very wet sand made muddled or elongated prints.
