Foster Company (Walla Walla , Washington ) What a historical name ! 3 troy oz .999 fine silver ingot “Eagle with Ribbon” This ingot is about the same size as regular 1 oz silver art bar, but about 3 times thicker. Foster Company made it in 1969 by stamping eagle with ribbon on a silver planchet – see type (2) in the following ‘tutorial’ : [The type of silver ingots made by Foster Company] Foster Company made following type silver bars, some you may already be very familiar with : (1). Pressed silver ingots – One example is “Silver Eagles Nest” 5 various sizes and shapes silver bars in black hardboard case. Another examples are the 1968, 1969, 1970 ‘Out of West” series each consisting 5 mining companies theme 3 oz .999 silver ingots in velvet presentation case. These pressed ingots were very cost-effective to make and could be made in large quantities in short time. They were sold to public during 1968-1970 at just a little over silver spot at that time. You still can find many of these pieces today in any week on ebay – imagine 40 years ago they must have been even more numerous. (2). Eagle with ribbon stamped on silver planchets – These were individually stamped by hand. They were sold to public via mail order.
