Offered from a local estate is a rare Fostoria American cupped-in footed bowl, Seligson's no. 118, with a book value of $220. Seldom seen on eBay, it is very possibly missing from your collection. Now is your chance to acquire one in absolutely mint condition with signs of use or wear or manufacturer flaws. It measures 9 1/2" in diameter by 4 1/2" high at the rim and has 30 rays. This bowl is guaranteed genuine Fostoria American and should not be confused with the American Whitehall salad bowl, which has sharper top points, thinner walls, and fatter and fewer (22) rays in the base. It should also not be mistaken for one of the Fostoria salad bowls. The no. 121 footed salad bowl (1936-1982) is 10" wide and flared at an angle clear to the top rim and is much more conical in shape than this bowl. The earlier original salad bowl (1933-1935) the no.103 deep nappy is also 10" wide with a flared shape to the top rim. The bowl listed is 9 1/2" wide and the top row of cubes are cupped back from the flared sides to be almost straight up instead of flared out at the rim, which can be seen in the top view photos and straight side view photos, as well. This Fostoria bowl alone weighs 4 lbs. without packing!I have described this piece honestly and accurately.
