John Jay Signed LARGE Document Military Commission as Governor of New York Signed and Dated 1800A lawyer by trade, John Jay (1745-1829) held many important political posts during his career includingPresident of the Continental Congress (1778-79) and Governor of New York. The size is 25" x 16"He was also the chief negotiator of a commercial treaty with Great Britain in 1794 which has come to be known as "Jay's Treaty."He also served as the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (1789-1795).The document is dated April 11, 1800 and appoints Arie Gardinear to the position of "... Ensign.." It has a beautiful EARLY American Eagle raised star seal - (see images)It is boldly signed " John Jay " along the right border and countersigned by "Daniel Hale," Secretary - I have seen these sell for up to $2,800.00The condition is "as-shown" Nicely framed (see images) Plastic not glass (small scratch on plastic) Not seen unless correct lighting and angle .See Images - ORIGINAL DOCUMENT - NOT A COPY - Fully Guaranteed Original and As Described.
