This chest is a refurbished silverware storage box. It is made out of solid Black Walnut. My best guess is that it was manufactured during the 1930/40’s. This box is very strong and well made. When I stripped the old finish off this piece I uncoverd one of the most beautiful Black Walnut grains I have ever seen. The main compartment will display fourteen fountain pens . If you collect fountain pens, then you have an investment that is worth protecting. If you collect vintage and antique fountain pens, why not store and display them in a fashion worthy of their distinction? Every chest I produce is a one-of-a-kind vessel that is between 40 and 80 years old. These are not assembly line – made in China boxes that you can find in office supply stores and sell for more than I charge for these. I repair and refurbish each box completely by hand. The interior of the boxes are replaced with a custom built system designed for the storage and display offountain pens. The finishing touches to the interior include a padded interior cover and a custom built slotted base for protection of the pens, both of which are covered with faux suede. The exteriors are completely stripped of all finishes and hand sanded to fresh wood working through stages with varying grits of sandpaper.
