A well executed, late 1800s oil on board seascape. While t does not appear to be a signature, I bought it from a as an unsigned painting by George M. Hathaway (1852-1903.) Hathaway was a Maine painter and I found auction records for him over $6000. Many of his paintings were done on artist board and are the same size as this one that I am offering. In addition, the board carries a label from Congress St., Portland, Maine. If you look at his other work, you will see that this painting certainly looks exactly like his work. I feel confident in the attribution. The size of the painting is 6" by 10&1/4." Framed, it is 11&1/4" by 15&1/4." Condition of the painting is as shown. T is some loss, virtually all of it covered by the frame. T is one small dab of visible inpainting - in the sky right above the largest wave. The painting is dirty and would certainly benefit from a cleaning. The frame is in VG condition - I don't see any chips. It has an old repaint on it - that being said, it shows very well - nothing cheezy about it. This is a nice package and priced right, even for our present depression. No reserve. Good luck!
