Thanks for stopping by my auction.History: Bill O'Neill was born in Livingston Montana in 1926. He mostly got started in art when his army engineer buddies sent his cartoons to the Pacific Stars and Stripes, (occupied Japan, 1946). This was the kick-off for a life of commercial illustration with leading magazines, newspapers, department stores, engineering, advertising agencies, etc. World-Wide locations, handled mostly in Montana.Bill passed away in 1999.Now for the item you are viewing: This picture is a limited edition, reproduced with laser onto cultured marble. Cultured marble pictues are etched in such a way as to render three dimensional relief. You can not only see the beauty and detail, you can also feel it. This picture is called "War Chief", The war chief is a Sioux warrior. The Sioux Indians were the same tribe who fought General Custer at the Battle of the Little Big Horn, wiping out his entire command of over 265 men. This Chieftain is "dressed-out" in Sioux-Cheyenne Indian garb. The overall measurements are approx 28" wide x 33" tall. The marble is 17" wide by 22 1/4" tall. The wood branch frame is strapped together with leather strips.
