Offered at auction is a beautifully maintained sterling wine coaster in the Francis I pattern by Reed & Barton. I checked with several sterling replacement sites and found only one listed for a whopping $795. It is a retired piece and exceedingly rare so if you collect Francis like I do... you might want to seriously consider this item. This wine coaster is part of the estate of a 1920's beach mansion in Flagler County. The 'developer' sharks are circling and the taxes, repairs and maintenance have exhausted the heir's resources. So he is selling off part of the contents until he can adequately determine his options. Either his grandmother collected wine coasters or she drank one heck of a lot of wine because t must have been one in every room. I've counted 14 so far... varying from simple and unassuming patterns to positively grand. Francis I is definitely in the 'positively grand' category. T are two identical dishes and since Francis I is my personal pattern... I am seriously debating with myself about keeping one. Have to decide if I really 'need' it. This coaster is in beautiful condition, showing none of the expected use and/or storage scratches of estate sterling. Please view the pictures carefully... even in the shade of the tree limbs, the sterling positively glows. The sterling pattern is a lushly detailed banding, the hallmark of Francis I, around a crystal center with an etched starburst design. Since the majority of this dish is not sterling... the weight really isn't significant but for those that just have to know... the weight of this item is 185 grams and is a very respectable 7 inches in diameter. Please view the pictures carefully. I generally take my photographs outside in sunlight to accurately depict the colors and conditions of the items I am offering. This time, the weather has turned exceedingly hot in Florida and I retreated to the shade of a crepe myrtle to take the pictures. So, if you see any discolorations or other anomalies that would indicate damage, it is either the sun, the clouds, the trees, or me. I try to fully and faithfully disclose any irregularities I find but I am far from perfect and some things may escape my detection. When damage (no matter how minute) I try to make sure that it is clearly depicted in the photos. Also, while I thoroughly wash and hand-polish every piece of sterling that I sell, I do not have the time or the inclination to get out a toothbrush and clean every little nook and cranny of the more intricate designs unless build-up or tarnish is excessive. I believe that I have described the above auction offering accurately and in detail. Please consult the photographs or Email me with any questions. My word is my bond. If you are unhappy with your purchase, please contact me within 3 business days to arrange return and a refund of your purchase price. Shipping charges are not refundable. The sterling that I am currently listing are not my property and as such, I am unable to make a 'deal' or entertain a 'Best Offer' scenario. They belong to a friend who is in the precious metals business. He has a warehouse that is stockpiled with sterling items that he has purchased over the last 28 years of business, including more than 100 different silver flatware sets. With the soaring price of silver, he had decided to send them all to the smelter to be melted down. Instead, I convinced him to let me try to offer them on Ebay so that they would not be destroyed. I know that t are silver lovers out t that wish to harken back to the days of genteel dining and gracious living. Besides, I have come to genuinely appreciate anything that is older than me and still survives. Below is a listing of the patterns that I currently have in stock. Please feel free to contact me at ceegeekase @ ( remember to close up the spaces around the @ mark - this is to foil the spam-bots that cruise Ebay for Email addresses) A B C...
