Best known as the Texas Ranger captain who tracked down and killed Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker. Born in western Texas, reared as a cowboy and blacksmith, and trained in the aura of the Old West, Frank Hamer joined the Texas Rangers when people still traveled by stagecoach and horseback. For the first half of his career as an officer, Hamer was in the saddle. For fifty years Frank Hamer participated in nearly a hundred individual gunfights with outlaws, and is said to have killed fifty-three men in the line of duty, was wounded seventeen times and left for dead four times.
