NORTON 3GAL BLUE COBALT FLORAL STONEWARE CROCK c1858 ~ ~ No Reserve Auction ~ This special no reserve auction brings you a beautifully decorated 3 gallon size elephant-ear handled crock. Made by and clearly stamped " FRANK B. NORTON WORCESTER, MASS . 3 " who produced pottery in the mid to late 1800s beginning c1858. The makers stamp is quite clear and highlighted with blue cobalt. This early piece of decorated stoneware by Frank B. Norton comes to you in a highly desired and extremely collectible medium 3 gallon size, which can be easily displayed just about anyw you please. This is another great example of early Norton stoneware, with their trademark high quality light gray clay under a generous application of salt glaze that was generously applied, leaving a very shiny tan lightly-pebbled texture which is also highly desired by collectors. T's also a unique double-incised ridge ring just below the rim that runs completely around the crock. The decoration is a large double floral with two blooms, tendrils and leaves all done in a very deep dark blue cobalt really stands out and contrasts extremely well with the tan stoneware background. Condition: Very good. No hairlines on this piece. Shallow flake chips on the rim , four on the outer rim and five small ones
