Franklin Library: Frederick Jackson Turner: The Frontier in American History Franklin Library FULL leather top-of-the-line edition of Frederick Jackson Turner's "The Frontier in American History," Illustrated by Phero Thomas, a Limited edition, one of the 100 GREATEST MASTERPIECES OF AMERICAN LITERATURE series, published in 1977. Bound in a Most Handsome mottled 'antiqued' brown Moroccan cowhide leather, the book has light brown French moire silk end leaves, satin book marker, hubbed spine, 22 kt. gold gilding on three edges---in FINE condition----this title was made to "look old"---but is not! Frederick Jackson Turner, who lived from 1861-1932, was born in WISCONSIN, taught history at the University of Wisconsin--Madison and at HARVARD University, 1910-1924. Turner complete his Ph.D. in History at JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY in Baltimore. In 1893, Jackson read a paper on "The Significance of the Frontier in American History" which inaugurated a 'new interpretation' of the West. This work was originally published in 1920 and the work is still considered the "definitive" work and Jackson the 'Western historian's historian.'
