Where would the Pontiac® Trans Am be without ’70s heartthrob Burt Reynolds and his iconic film, "Smokey and the Bandit"? This classic 1977 comedy charmed the world with its groundbreaking chase scenes, loveable “back country” cast and the adorable antics of a runaway bride...played by America’s sweetheart, Sally Field. But few cars have had more Big Screen time in history than the black Trans Am in Smokey…and no other vehicle has singlehandedly defined an entire era of cowboy Muscle Cars. Only weeks after the movie release, the Trans Am became a national icon. Sales almost doubled in one year. In fact, during the summer "Smokey and the Bandit" was released, car sales jumped 30,000 units from 68,745 to 93,341.
