Franklin Mint White House Historical Association Silver Proof 38 Presidential Medals- A fabulous collection of presidential medals as well as a great silver bullion investment of 47.5 oz. Only 4088 proof sets were minted and many may have been melted for their silver value. Here is why this particular set is so special.
1. Size: huge 45 mm, 1.75 inch proof coins. 600 grams of silver each, 1.25 troy ounces 2. Condition: Absolutely flawless sterling silver proof medals encapsulated in the original plastic cases supplied by the Franklin Mint. A few have the faintest very light toning which does not detract from their beauty or value. 3. Truly Complete: Unlike most of these sets which contain only the original 36 presidential medals or 37 including President Gerald Ford, this is a truly Complete set with the final 38th medal of President Jimmy Carter. (see photo #4). Have not seen this set offered for sale anywhere with this 38th medal. 4. One Owner: Purchased by the seller and in his possession for the last 37 years. 5. Artistic Value: These medals were designed by Gilroy Roberts - sculptor, gemstone carver and the ninth Chief Engraver of the United States Mint between 1948 and 1964. He designed the beautiful, award winning obverse of the Kennedy half dollar. As chairman of the Franklin Mint, he designed this magnificent collection of presidential portraits, some experts calling them the very best presidential portraits ever sculpted. This collection ranks as one of the best ever issued by the Franklin Mint. 6. Display frames: Coins are mounted in the original three hardwood frames supplied by the Franklin Mint. They have hanger brackets. Frame # 1 displays presidents Washington through Fillmore (see photo #1), frame #2 displays presidents Pierce through T. Roosevelt (see photo #2) and frame #3 displays presidents Taft through Carter (see photo #3). 7. Silver value: At $30 per ounce the silver melt value is approximately $1400, the opening bid price. A similar set with just 37 medals sold for $1491 on 2/26/2011. 8. Paperwork/book: Are not included. 9. Original cost: was $475 in 1972-74 for the 38 medals. No returns. This set is obviously authentic as I purchased it new from the Franklin Mint, have owned it since then and I have described it very accurately. Free shipping within the USA. This is quite a savings as packing material, shipping and insurance costs will be substantial.
