Franklin Mint Masterpieces of Impressionism Silver Art Medal Set Rare ~ Complete Set of 50 ~ 62.5 Oz. Gold-Plated Sterling Silver Complete set of 50 large gold-plated Sterling Silver art medals, each depicting one of the most famous works of Impressionist art. This set was issued by Le Medaillier, the French affiliate of the Franklin Mint, in 1974-1979 to honor of the 100th anniversary of the first Impressionist Art exhibition. Included are masterpieces by Renoir, Manet, Degas, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cezanne, and many more. This is the type of set that the Franklin Mint is famous for - large art medals minted in superb detail in Proof condition. These medals measure 45mm in diameter and weigh 600 grains each. Total weight for the set is 62.5 troy oz. Sterling Silver. The set comes complete with the original custom display album and a separate album with the Certificate of Authenticity and a brochure on each work of art. The medals are encased in plastic capsules to protect the Proof finish and are in mint condition although they show some tarnish, mainly at the edges, which is very characteristic of the gold-plated medals (and can be removed if desired). The display album is in pristine condition. This set is exceptionally rare - only 854 sets were issued and who knows how many of these still exist 35 years later. A gorgeous collectible with almost 5 pounds of pure silver, and priced well below just the scrap silver bullion value ! - I've been on Ebay for over 13 years with 100% buyer satisfaction.
