Up for auction is theFranklin Mint presentation of this set, issued / designed by The Royal Shakespeare Theatre of Stratfod-upon-Avon, England, titled; “The Shakespeare Medals”. This set includes 38 each, 45mm, medals, totaling 48.891 troy ounces of Sterling (0.925) Silver. Each medal is stamped on the edge, 24KT GOLD ELECTROPLATE ON STERLING, with the Franklin Mint Hallmark, the date Hallmark, and a Proof Hallmark ('P'). The total (0.999) pure silver content of this set comes to 45.224175 troy ounces of pure silver. At , for February 25, 2011, 01:09 am NY Time, silver spot price is $32.72. The starting bid is set at $1500.00, or $33.17 per troy ounce (0.999) pure silver, due to the extra nice Electroplate finish in 24kt Gold. All 38 medals are in their original plastic Air-Tite capsules, so they are protected from damage, wear, and soiling, while handling or transport. With the Air-Tite case installed, the total diameter of each unit, is 55.1mm, while the medal itself, inside the case, is 45mm. The Storage and Display Book shown in the Image is THE WRONG SIZE BOOK for this Set of Medals. The BOOK SHOWN has 45mm holes / sockets , AND the Gold Plated Medals offered here WILL NOT FIT the BOOK, unless you remove the AIR-Tite Case. The BOOK SHOWN is for the 45mm STERLING ONLY Medals (a similar but different set; i.e...no Gold Plating), with No Air-Tite case Installed. The Gold Plated Medals offered here are a total of 55.1mm in diameter each, due to the Air-Tite case installed on the medals, so they will not fit the hole locations (45mm holes) in this book. The BOOK SHOWN Does come with the auction, along with a set of 32 of the 38 Original Brochures, each of which describes each, of 32 of the 38, individual Medals. I obtained This set of Medals 2 years ago, without the original Book or original set of brochures. Later I was able to obtain the Book Shown (45mm holes / sockets), with a set of 32 of 38 brochures. These Medals represent Rare, Unusual, High Quality, Fine Art, in Precious Metal Form. You may be paying only for the pure silver, but you will be getting a much more valuable collection of Historic Artistic Documentation, an Heirloom Treasure, of increasingly collectible value over time, and over the Present Times.
