Franklin Mint Silver Bars Back in "The Day" the Hunt Brothers tried to corner the silver market and the price of it skyrocketed. At that time Franklin Mint produced a series of bars that were Sterling Silver and 1000 grains each. It takes 470 grains to make an ounce and thus each bar contains 2.13 ounces of Sterling Silver. I bought a bunch of them and put them in the safe. They were wrapped in what passed for Ziploc bags back then. As a result they are not tarnished and look quite good. They may have some fingerprints and light scratches but for the most part they are in excellent condition. I unwrapped five of them so that I could take pictures. I have 34 of these bars in the collection. at 2.13 Oz. each that is 72.42 Oz. Sterling is 92.5% pure silver therefore the collection has 66.90 Oz. of pure silver in it. So if the spot price of silver is $37.35 the collection has a melt value of $2500.00My buy it now price is LESS than the value of the junk silver as of the market today. 3/25/2011I accept Pay Pal and can do certified checks or personal check, but of course I have to hold them for ten business days.
