RARE Franklin Mint Sir Francis Drake Falling Ball Clock Hello bidders. Up for bid today is a REALLY unique piece from the Franklin Mint. This is the first one of these I have ever seen and certainly something you don't see every day. This is a Sir Francis Drake Falling ball clock made by the Franklin Mint in 1981. Really a neat piece and kind of hard to describe. The clock is the ball and works on a suspension wire that allows the clock to run and when the clock goes to the bottom you lift up and it restarts it. I do not know if this clock is running. You can twist it a small amount and you can hear it tick-tock. It seems like it will run for about 30 seconds and the quit working. All pieces seem to be moving freely and does not seem locked up. Clocks are not my thing but it is unique. From the research I have done, the clock was made in a limited edition and is a copy of an 18th century clock. The clock was made by Thwaites and Reed Ltd of England for the Franklin Mint. The piece is in the original untouched finish but looks like the globe might polish up som more with some work. The clock is quite heavy and weighs about 8 pounds with the backboard. The clock comes with the original paperwork from the Franklin Mint. Again, I am unsure of whether this clocks run but may need servicing. This clock is being sold as is. The clock originally
