The group was easily distinguished by the white skull and crossed bombs moniker. From 1943, the four squadrons all displayed the insignia on the twin tail fins of their aircraft with different color backgrounds for each squadron. The differing colors made it easier to for the pilots to rally before bomb raids. The Consolidated B-24 Liberator was an American heavy bomber, built by Consolidated Aircraft.
